Unit 30 Pitch to client

For my pitch i will need to think about all elements of my advert idea. this will include the pre production, production and post production elements of the advert. Before delivering my pitch I did some of the pre production documents for my idea. these included a first draft script, recce, resource list and a risk assessment.
For my pitch I had to get my idea across. so the client will fully and clearly understand my idea. my pitch consisted of:

  • short synopsis
  • Characters
  • elements
  • Locations
  • Rational and feasibility

teams

To be able to complete the advert to a high standard we will need to be well prepared. To do this i will need to fully understand the idea. For this I have a copy of the script, scene by scene, synopsis and treatment. As there are only two of us in the team we will need to be professional and work together for the pre production process.

Unit 30 Treatment

Creating a treatment breaks down the idea. this makes the idea easier to understand and make. this also helps me to develop my idea in more detail. The treatment consists of:

  • The genre which for my idea is narrative film as it tells a story
  • the duration as this is a advert the duration will be between 20 and 30 seconds
  • the log line which is a short description of the advert
  • a short synopsis this is a slightly more detailed description of the film.
  • the purpose/ rational which for my advert is to highlight the main problems of mental health and why it is important to talk about it.
  • feasibility can the advert really be done
  • visual elements how will the advert be filmed. my advert will be filmed in the styled in the form of a documentary
  • target audience (Rubicam) 12 - 18
  • Character and location
  • research
  • resources

Unit 30 idea generation and development

idea generation

After doing research and meeting with the client I generated three ideas based on the information I had gained from both processes. The three I ideas I came up with were:

  • A teen becomes depressed and begins to have low self esteem after being bullied at college.
  • Two people have a conversation about the mental health issues they both have, how they found mind and how the charity helped.
  • A mind worker talks about how she has a mental health issue, how the charity helped her and hope she became a volunteer at the charity.

For my advert I have decided to go with the first idea. I have decided this as the idea is more feasible and relatable. The idea is relatable to teenagers between the age of 12 and 18 as it will be set in a educational environment. The advert will also meet some of the main points that john mentioned when we met him. The advert will centre around low self esteem and bullying which is one of the main causes of mental health in teenagers.

Unit 30 meeting with mind

During the meeting with mind I learned and understood a lot more about the charity and what they are looking for in terms of the advert.
Our client John swallow mentioned some of the main things he wanted the advert to achieve. some of these included:

  • creativity - to develop ideas that are creative and fun to draw attention to that advert and the charity.
  • positive image - the advert should be shown in a positive way. "busy and exciting"
  • aim - to get people to talk about mental health.
  • target audience - teenagers aged 12 - 18 and parents
  • identify main issues - some of the main issues with young people are anxiety, low self esteem and bullying
  • facts and statistics - the advert should contain facts and statistics on and around mental health issues
  • honest - the advert should be 100% honest
I also gained a clearer understanding of what the charity does and what it has achieved:

  • mind is a community charity not medical. they believe that activities will help their clients more than medicines.
  • each of their clients have a personal worker who help them on one to ones
  • the charity helps their clients in a creative way using activities such as therapy, music and creative writing.
  • mind also have their own elopement which they are hoping to expand here their clients grow their own vegetables and help to keep the elopement tidy.
  • John also mentioned that some of their staff have had mental health problems in the past.

From this meeting i also learned a lot of things about mental health such as everyone has mental health weather it is good or bad and that mental health is not just issues such as schizophrenia and multiple personality disorder. mental health can also be some of the less known things such as depression and social anxiety.

the meeting with john helped me to develop ideas that fit more with what he is looking for. this also helped me to develop ideas that will hopefully not offend anyone with a mental health issue or anyone who knows someone with a mental health issue.

Unit 30 research

primary research

This research was conducted by myself. The research i did included: watching multiple mental health adverts including adverts made for time for change and other charities. some of the adverts i looked at were:

I beleive the most effective ad was the stand up kid as this can change people perseptions on mental health and shows that any one can have a mental health illness. I also looked at some life stories and events posted by clients on the time for change website. http://www.time-to-change.org.uk/join-the-conversation

secondary research

This type of research was originally generated by someone else. The secondary research i did included: statistics shown on multiple websites including http://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/help-information/mental-health-statistics/

I also watched some tv programmes including bbc 3s documentary Its a mad world and diary of a broken mind in doing this research it has helped me to understand mental health more. This also helped me to develop ideas based around the research.
